About Us

Philo4Thought Inc. is a 501(c)3 philanthropic educational nonprofit foundation.

Woman-Owned Business — Greek-Owned Business — serving and empowering marginalized minority populations.

Ancient Greek Origins of "Mentor"

MENTOR is originally a reference to a character in the classic Homeric epic, The Odyssey. Mentor, son of Alcimus, befriended Odysseus in his old age; prior to leaving for the Trojan War, Odysseus placed his son Telemachus in Mentor’s care and Athena (goddess of wisdom) appeared to Telemachus transformed as Mentor to advise the young noble to defend his mother and his home against the ravages of Penelope’s many suitors, to seek out his father, and more.

Most notably, mentoring future leaders hit a high point at the time when Aristotle served as Alexander the Great’s mentor. The gist of Aristotelian advisement goes beyond strategic leadership, embracing a philosophy for life based on particular pillars that, once fulfilled, will lead to a life of flourishing and happiness.

In modern times, a mentor is considered a voice of wisdom; a guide for youth seeking answers and solutions as they transition and advance in school, work and life. Good mentors advise and empower the young professionals under their care. To this end, there are different types of mentoring that serve specific purposes, each leading to the common goal of empowering the person receiving guidance.

By contrast, a coach is more focused and engages in more direct skill-building activities that helps to unlock a person’s true potential.

Philo4Thought offers a combination of mentoring and coaching services to meet the needs of today’s young professionals.
