Program Details

Description: 

We invite new and continuing mentors to complete a short, 2-Part, 1-Hour training to ensure that we continue to provide top mentoring services to our the current and incoming young professionals in our community. Mentors are currently being recruited from across North America as well as France, UK, Greece and other regions with young professionals in need of our services.

 

This activity is also open to directors of other organizations who are looking to create a sustainable mentoring initiative.

Those who choose to take the time to learn about these crucial skills often benefit from having a better understanding of people, how to convey knowledge in an active learning environment and help people build themselves and prosper. Administrative directors and programming coordinators will learn about the common challenges of managing a mentoring group so that it remains a safe, professional and productive learning space for all those involved.  

Prepare to be an effective mentor to young professionals at any level along their academic or professional paths!

  • Learn about the differences between coaching and mentoring as well as different types of coaches and mentors.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of how coaches and mentors help others.
  • Learn (or improve upon) good managerial and leadership skills that are required for effective coaching/mentoring.
  • Gain more confidence in your ability to advise others soundly and effectively.
  • Learn about different occupations related to your coaching/mentoring interests.
  • Learn about the requirements needed to serve as a coach or mentor.
  • Develop a better understanding of people and why they come in for guidance.
  • Learn about professional expectations for empowering coaching/mentoring.
  • Learn (or improve upon) coaching and professional relationship-building skills.
  • Learn about common pitfalls that lead to poor mentoring/coaching.
  • NEW: Learn about Team Building exercises in your organization or mentoring group.

Training Cost: 

  • FREE for Philo4Thought 2021-22 Passport Members who are looking to become Mentors for the upcoming academic year!
  • 50% off ($25) for those who completed a mentoring course with us in previous years.
  • $50 for those taking the training for the first time.
  • NOTE: All proceeds, which are tax deductible educational expenses for all attendees, cover our training and technical costs; a portion also goes towards our annual Scholarship Fund.

  • This course is designed to help attendees unlock their positive mentoring or coaching potential.
  • Having an effective mentor or coach can be an important developmental building block in one’s academic and professional path. 
  • A good mentor knows how to build a person’s confidence and skills within a given profession.
  • Mentors and coaches are experts who provide long- or short-term guidance over time.

11:35am PART II: The Future of Guidance through Major Transitions

  • Learn about different ways to provide guidance for College-to-Career transitions.
  • Learn about different ways to provide guidance for Work-Life transitions or Lifestyle adjustments.
  • Learn when to step back (rather than hover).

11:45am PART III: Advising on Resume & Professional Profile Designs 

  • Provide standardized guidance about the latest tips and tricks to prepare an appealing resume or CV.
  • Provide standardized guidance about the latest tips and tricks to prepare an appealing professional profile.
  • Note: Some tips are already provided on our YouTube Channel, so we will direct attendees to these as well since time is limited. Please post a comment on YouTube once you’ve completed watching the video. We will share the link with those in attendance.
