Greek Independence Day Tribute!

WELCOME BACK!

As mentioned in our March Newsletter, this is the month that the Greek community joins to celebrate the rich legacies of our culture and unflappable faith as we honor the anniversary of our Independence Day on the 25th. It’s an opportunity to remember and educate others about heroism, perseverance, pride and the many wonderful qualities for which Greek communities and individuals are historically recognized. On this note, we wish everyone a wonderful Annunciation Feast Day and Greek Independence Day.

We’ve prepared a video tribute which was uploaded to our YouTube Channel earlier today along with our video archives of previous G.I.D. parades. For those who have asked to have the slides laid out for easier reading, please see the separate images below. Enjoy!

A shoutout to everyone who we would usually be seeing on 5th Avenue today. Stay tuned for news of the annual NYC GID Parade, which is scheduled for Sunny June 2022. In the meantime, stay safe. See you all soon!

REMINDER: Today is the last day to sign up for FREE Tickets to Philo4Thought’s Annual Symposium! Additional tickets are available through May 10th. All are welcome to register. (50% off of paid registration for students and Philo4Thought Passport Members).

Have a question or topic you’d like addressed in a future video or newsletter? Please send your feedback through the chat box at the bottom of the screen or email us.

Special Recognition

The following initiatives are recognized for their unprecedented efforts in giving back to the community on a regular basis. More about each of these organizations will be shared at our annual Spring Symposium on May 14th: https://philo4thought.org/sb-strategies.

  • Data-to-Design Student Training Cohort: Your Instructional Designer is running a cohort in March 2022 for participating community leaders and students to consult in a mock think tank setting for an hour to allow students to develop their professional training and experience as young entrepreneurs. Specific focus includes support and problem-solving for female business leaders and managers of large and mid-sized companies while students practice holding the role of consulting in a closed-circuit course platform. Email Your Instructional Designer directly to participate.
  • Training & Mentorship Initiative: Roos Advisors runs an advisory service in collaboration with the Miracle Activation Center, providing intervention services (including counseling, and case management) for companies and families. They offer a free Zoom support hotline every Thursday (10am-11:30am EST). To request a free Zoom consult, please email Roos Advisors directly and mention that you were referred by Philo4Thought on HYPLife!
  • Outstanding Philhellenic Outreach & Support: New Skills Academy (US & UK) has collaborated with the Clarion Housing initiative, Clarion Futures Jobs & Training, in the UK. This Social Value community outreach project offers members of Housing Associations and charitable organizations free and low-cost education via the New Skills Academy training platform, with unlimited access to any course in the entire course catalogue for 12 months. Naz Kauser, Operations Manager for the Clarion Futures Jobs & Training initiative offered wonderful feedback about the  advancement and employment of participants in this program, sharing that New Skills Academy “have been working very closely with Clarion’s Futures delivery team across East Anglia, providing a diverse portfolio of virtual courses for our participants…80% completed their course[s] and moved into employment in 2021.” After having a successful first year, this initiative will continue on in the UK. Philo4Thought will also continue working with New Skills Academy as part of our mutual commitment to helping people enter or return to the workforce here in the US.

MINDFULNESS TIPS

Top Tips to Choosing a Sustainable Career Path

Crafting a sustainable career that can carry you through good as well as challenging times is absolutely necessary in 2022.

  • What is a “Sustainable Career Path” is and why it is desirable?
    • Sustainable career paths and choices are lasting and endure over time,  typically to the conclusion of one’s work-life cycle.
    • A sustainable career path is connected with one’s Life Mission. It is meaningful, flexible and durable enough to  grow with a person as he/she gains training, experience and skills.
    • A sustainable career path does not refer to a “green” sustainability career involving environmental mission statements, ecological research and so on.
  • What are your core values?
    • Consider the things you do that define who you are.
    • Competencies: Think about the things you are good at doing. Make a Competency List.
    • Fulfillment: Think of activities and tasks that make you feel positive about yourself and the world around you, regardless of whether or not you are good at them or not. Make a Fulfillment List.
    • Training: Finally, consider the gaps in your training or skills that may be needed to improve your ability to accomplish the tasks on your Fulfillment List.
    • These form the seeds of your Life Mission, which then becomes crafted from here.
  • Helpful Resources:
    • Take a workshop to explore an interest. (Free or low-cost courses are available online.)
      • FREE Assessments are available at Philo4Thought! Click Here.
      • Personal Development Courses.  Explore a new skill or hobby. Learning a language or new skill (cooking, gardening, etc.) can help to unlock your potential by taking your mind off the every day.
      • Professional Development Courses. Gain a better grasp of a skill you need for your current or desired job.
      • Earn a supplementary certificate to advance in your current or desired career path.
      • Meet with a reliable career coach when planning any type of transition (college-to-career, corporate to entrepreneurial, etc.).
      • Expand your horizons through positive and proactive networking.
